Senior care is a state responsibility – and a Minnesota value.

Two organizations. One mission.

The Long-Term Care Imperative (LTCI) is a partnership of Minnesota's two senior care provider associations – Care Providers of Minnesota and LeadingAge Minnesota.

LTCI members employ 80,000 professional caregivers in Minnesota, meeting the needs of seniors in all the places seniors call home – including short-term care, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing homes.

Caring for our older loved ones is more than a responsibility – it’s a Minnesota value.

The Reality We Face

Minnesota is not prepared to accommodate the increased demand for senior care services that is resulting from our skyrocketing senior population. The population of seniors in Minnesota is expected to double between 2010 and 2030, but long-term care providers are facing historic workforce shortages and financial challenges. Without significant investment in Minnesota’s long-term care workforce and infrastructure, care will become less accessible and affordable for current and future seniors in need of care.

Our Goals

The Long-Term Care Imperative advocates for common-sense policies that promote access, safety, and stable funding for Minnesota’s seniors and long-term care providers. We work together with seniors, caregivers, and their families to build awareness of the challenges Minnesota faces as the senior population grows and ensure our state is prepared to provide all seniors with the quality care they deserve.

In 2025, we’re working tirelessly to support legislative and regulatory changes that will:

  • Prevent over $700,000,000 in cuts to care.

  • Fix a projected $900,000,000 funding gap for care over the next four years.

  • Improve the safety and security of assisted living residents and caregivers.

  • Remove limitations on nurses in assisted living settings that prevent them from practicing the full scope of their training.
